Broken tooth with a protruding root

Have you broken a tooth and the root is still in your gum? See your dentist first. Then Denticor.

A broken tooth with a visible root needs a dentist’s assessment before you cover the area. The dentist will determine whether the tooth can be restored or needs to be removed. If extraction is necessary, Denticor may be an option only after the site has healed and the gap is suitable.

This is not a situation suitable for Denticor. Arrange a dental assessment before considering Denticor. If extraction is needed, the replacement can be considered later, after healing. Seek urgent dental advice for severe pain, swelling or fever.

Many people put off a broken tooth. A dental assessment will establish whether it can be restored or needs extraction.

Is your situation different? If only a small piece has chipped off and the tooth is otherwise firmly in place, this isn’t the page for you – see Tooth repair (procedure and prices available from your dentist) or Veneers for temporary coverage of a chipped front tooth.

Why can’t the root wait?

A broken tooth with a visible root needs a dental assessment. Covering it will not treat the underlying problem.

A broken tooth can expose its inner tissues to bacteria. Pain alone does not show how serious the damage is. A dentist can assess the tooth and discuss repair, root canal treatment or extraction where needed.

What happens whilst you wait

  • Bacteria enter the root canal
  • the surrounding bone may start to resorb
  • An abscess may develop – pus under the gum or in the bone
  • If the condition worsens, it is followed by facial swelling, a fever and acute pain

What Denticor cannot do at this stage

  • does not affect the root
  • does not relieve pain or inflammation
  • It won’t cure an infection – it just hides it from view
  • Cannot be fitted onto a protruding root

Why is this the case?

Denticor relies on healthy neighbouring teeth, not on the damaged tooth. The DentiFlex material moulds itself around the neighbouring teeth. If there is a protruding root in your mouth, the neighbouring teeth cannot compensate for it – and Denticor would simply mask a problem that is getting worse in the meantime.

Are you afraid of the dentist?

Is the problem a broken tooth, or the dentist themselves?

For many people, the hardest part isn’t a broken tooth, but the visit to the dentist itself. Embarrassment about the state of your mouth, uncertainty about the cost, memories of a painful visit ten years ago. Here are the answers to what’s probably holding you back.

How to get started if you haven’t been to the dentist for a long time
Call the dental practice and explain: “I’ve got a broken tooth, the root is sticking out of my gum, I need an appointment.” Tell the practice what happened and describe any pain or swelling. They can advise how urgently you need to be seen. Appointment availability varies.
Will the dentist be angry about the poor condition of your mouth?
A professional dentist doesn’t judge. They see broken teeth every day. They know that coming in after all these years takes courage – and most of them respect that. The worst reaction you can realistically expect is a calm “you should have come sooner, but let’s sort this out.”
Will the dentist start drilling straight away? Will it hurt?
Tell the dentist you are worried and ask them to explain the examination and proposed treatment before starting. If an extraction is necessary, local anaesthetic is usually used. The procedure and its duration depend on the tooth.
How much does the repair cost? What if I can’t afford it all at once?
The extraction itself in Slovakia costs approximately between 30 and 80 €. A permanent solution (implant, bridge) runs into the hundreds, but Most dentists draw up a plan in stages – you don’t pay for everything in one go. The first step is always just an examination.

Procedure

This is the only sequence that makes sense.

1

Dentist’s appointment

Contact a dentist and describe the broken tooth and any symptoms. Severe pain, swelling or fever needs urgent advice. Difficulty breathing or swallowing requires immediate emergency help.

2

Extraction, if necessary

If extraction is necessary, your dentist will explain the procedure and aftercare. Follow those instructions and allow the site to heal before considering a temporary replacement.

3

Healing

- ask which steps are urgent and whether treatment and payment can be arranged in stages.

4

Only then Denticor

Once the site has healed and you’re waiting for an implant or bridge, Denticor comes into play.

Denticor after treatment and healing

Once the site has healed, new possibilities open up.

A permanent solution (implant, bridge) can take months or longer. In the meantime, Denticor will cover the gap so that you can smile and go about your daily life as normal. A detailed procedure is available on a separate page for those who have already had an extraction.

Who would benefit from Denticor in this context

  • the area has healed, with no pain, swelling or bleeding
  • the area around the gap has stable, immobile neighbouring teeth
  • you want a temporary aesthetic restoration until the implant or bridge is fitted
  • Are you prepared to be patient – sometimes it takes several attempts?

What to take with you to your dental check-up

At your post-extraction check-up, ask whether the site is suitable for a temporary replacement. Your dentist knows what your wound looks like – they’ll tell you whether it makes sense to order the kit now or to wait a few more weeks.

What the fitting process looks like

Follow the fitting guide supplied for your selected teeth. Soften DentiFlex as instructed, let it cool to a comfortably warm temperature, then fill the hollow crown and shape the support around neighbouring teeth without pressing on the gum. Remove the piece while it is still soft and let it harden fully outside the mouth. Check the fit and easy removal before use. Delivery estimates are shown before you confirm the order.

Sets for use after healing

Check the packaging in advance. It only makes sense to order them once the site has healed.

Do not order now if you still have a root protruding from your gum. The area is not ready for Denticor while a damaged root remains. A dentist must first assess treatment options. If extraction is needed, wait for healing before measuring the gap and ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about a broken tooth with a root.

Does it hurt more than I think?

Sensitivity or pain may occur, but a tooth can need treatment even when it does not hurt. A dental examination is needed to assess the damage; the absence of pain does not establish that the root is healthy.

How long after extraction can I order Denticor?

Healing time varies. Follow your dentist’s aftercare instructions and ask when the area is ready for a temporary removable replacement. Do not fit Denticor on a fresh wound or while pain, swelling or bleeding persists.

I have a pre-extraction kit at home. Can I use it?

Keep the unused kit stored according to its instructions. Do not fit it over a damaged root or a fresh extraction wound. Once the area has healed, check that your selected teeth and gap dimensions still match before fitting it.
