A broken tooth on the Camino de Santiago

400 km on foot. No dentist in sight. And the question that gave rise to Denticor.

The Camino de Santiago 2017 – this is where the idea for Denticor was born

Camino de Santiago, 2017

A 400 km walk across Spain. Somewhere along that route, it all began.

In 2017, I walked the Camino de Santiago – a walking pilgrimage through Spain. Hundreds of kilometres on foot, several weeks on the road, every day just a rucksack, the road and the next stage.

Somewhere in the middle of this, I broke a tooth.

If you’ve ever lost a visible tooth, you know how it feels. You stop smiling naturally. You cover your mouth when you speak. Even ordinary social interaction suddenly becomes uncomfortable. And I was far from home, with no access to prompt treatment and no simple solution. I had no money for the dentist, absolutely none.

It was precisely there that the question arose which later led to the creation of Denticor: Is it possible to create a simple, temporary and workable solution for someone who doesn’t want to be left without a tooth whilst waiting for their final treatment?

Conversations that sparked the idea

A break in Galicia

A rucksack, a coffee, a view. It was during one such break that a conversation began which led to the creation of Denticor.

The next stage, more kilometres and more hours of discussion as we go along.

During the Camino, I met a doctor specialising in oral surgery and implantology. Along the way, we talked repeatedly about how teeth work, what forces act upon them, and what a temporary solution that a person can manage to use themselves should entail.

What started as a chance discussion turned into many more kilometres of conversation. We discussed what such a solution should be capable of, what would be going too far, where the limits lie, and what must remain merely a temporary stopgap until the final treatment.

He provided a medical perspective on the function and limitations. I was thinking about how to create something practical, simple and accessible for the average person.

The idea for Denticor didn’t start in an office. It began on a road in Spain.

Santiago de Compostela

The end of the journey. But the idea that came to me along the way was only just beginning.

From idea to product

On my return to Košice, I began experimenting with various materials, shapes and fixation methods. The aim was clear: to find a solution that would hold securely, be aesthetically acceptable and not rely on adhesive or cement.

Mechanical interlocking instead of bonding.

After months of development and testing, the principle of mechanical interlocking emerged – a method of attachment based on mechanical fixation rather than bonding. Gradually, the idea became a real product.

Denticor was launched in 2018.

We developed the principle of mechanical interlocking and DentiFlex technology in Košice. No adhesive and no cement.

Founder of Denticor

Denticor has been on the market since 2018. We manufacture it in Slovakia, at our company Sciéntio Laboratories. We operate in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany.

On the Camino, I realised one simple thing – when you’re missing a tooth, you don’t always need a permanent solution straight away. Sometimes, what you need most is something for tomorrow. Something that lets you carry on as normal whilst you work out the next step. That’s exactly why Denticor exists.

The Denticor team

The product did not come about in a vacuum. Although Denticor began with a single question on a pilgrimage, today there is a dedicated team behind it – a content writer, a product developer and a pair of experienced pharmacists who expertly review the health-sensitive formulations and material specifications.

You can read more about how the content review process works in Editorial and Professional Policy.

Denticor is not a permanent solution. It is a temporary aesthetic aid – a stopgap for the period when you need it. We recommend visiting your dentist as soon as possible. But until then? Until then, you don’t have to go without a tooth.
